This comprehensive Traffic Control Industry course equips you for roles as a Traffic Controller and Traffic Implementer on high volume roads. Delivered over 2 days, Face-to-Face

• Control traffic and operate communication devices.
• Control traffic at traffic signals where signals have been turned off
• Control traffic on high volume roads.
• Ensure the WHS requirements are adhered to by all.
• Implement work procedures to commence controlling traffic and all other road users when signals have been switched off and back on.
• Communicate regularly with client, personnel, and other relevant parties.
• Prepare to implement traffic management plan.
• Set out and monitor traffic guidance scheme.
• Monitor and coordinate work program.
• Diagnose and solve routine problems.
• Close down work activities and maintain operating records.

The combined skill sets provide the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic control and traffic management implementation on a site and road workers under their direction, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments on Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads.

The units of competency comprise both theoretical and practical components.

TC2

• Learners are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of practical training work experience in a Temporary Traffic Management workplace and record evidence in the log book provided within the six-month period.

TMI 2

• Learners have to attend the practical assessment held by Workzone Training demonstrating implementing traffic management plans on high volume and signalised intersections on at least three separate live traffic projects and setting out traffic guidance schemes as well control traffic on high volume roads and signalised intersections on at least two occasions.

• Alternative assessment options are available with Workzone Training based on eligibility criteria for both TC1 and TMI1 course as well as TC2 and TMI2 course.

All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

• Completion of RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads;
• at least one month experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
• 40 hours of experience working in a temporary traffic management.
• Evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types including high speed roads or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following types:
  • pedestrian and cyclist controls
  • construction sites
  • lane closures
  • shoulder closures
  • night works
  • use of portable traffic control devices
  • motorways or freeways.
• Learners are required to be reaccredited every 3 years
