COURSE OVERVIEW

This comprehensive Traffic Control Industry course equips you for roles as a Traffic Controller and Traffic Implementer on high volume roads. With assessments covering multiple-choice questions, written responses, incident reporting, verbal questioning, and practical skills demonstration, you'll gain essential skills. COURSE DURATION

Delivered over 2 days, Face-to-Face.

Only once training has been completed learners are required to complete 20 hours of work placement and additional practical observations.

Course Content

  • Control traffic and operate communication devices.
  • Control traffic at traffic signals where signals have been turned off
  • Control traffic on high volume roads.
  • Ensure the WHS requirements are adhered to by all.
  • Implement work procedures to commence controlling traffic and all other road users when signals have been switched off and back on.
  • Communicate regularly with client, personnel, and other relevant parties.
  • Prepare to implement traffic management plan.
  • Set out and monitor traffic guidance scheme.
  • Monitor and coordinate work program.
  • Diagnose and solve routine problems.
  • Close down work activities and maintain operating records.

Course Outcome

On successful completion of all course requirements and assessments, learners will be issued with:

  • Statement of Attainment issued by Workzone Training.
  • The Territory Business Centre (TBC) is responsible for issuing TTM ID cards on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL).

Delivery & Assessment

The units of competency comprise both theoretical and practical components.

TC2

  • Learners are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of practical training work placement in a Temporary Traffic Management workplace and record evidence in the log book provided within the six-month period.
  • Work placement must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component, work placement if not available can be arranged with Workzone Traffic.

TMI 2

  • Learners have to attend the practical assessment held by Workzone Training demonstrating implementing traffic management plans on high volume and signalised intersections on at least three separate live traffic projects and setting out traffic guidance schemes as well control traffic on high volume roads and signalised intersections on at least two occasions.

Existing Workzone Traffic Management Card (WZTM) card holders:

  • Alternative assessment options are available for existing Workzone Traffic Management Card (WZTM) card holders (ticket needs to be still valid).
  • Have you been working in a TTM role for the last 6 months? You could be eligible for a blended assessment approach.
  • Contact Workzone Training today to discuss alternative assessment options for you or your staff for TC1 and TMI1 courses as well as TC2 and TMI2 courses.

Entry Requirement

TC2 (RIISS00059 - Traffic Controller Skill Set for High Volume Roads):

  • Completion of the RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; and
  • At least 40 hours of experience working in a temporary traffic management workplace in a traffic controller role.

TMI2 (RIISS00061 - Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads):

  • Completion of the RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; and
  • At least one month experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types including high-speed roads or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following types:
    • Pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • Construction sites
    • Lane closures
    • Shoulder closures
    • Night works
    • Use of portable traffic control devices
    • Motorways or freeways
