Traffic Management Designer 1 (TMD1)

Learners are required to have completed one of the following TMI skill sets:

• TMI1 – RIISSS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
• TMI2 – RIISSS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads
• TMI3 – RIISSS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways

AND

• Have at least 12 months experience working as a Traffic Management Implementer

AND

• Have relevant experience implementing at least 20 TGSs in at least four of the following design types:
  • pedestrian and cyclist controls
  • construction sites
  • lane closures
  • shoulder closures
  • night works
  • use of portable traffic control devices
  • motorways or freeways

           OR

• At least an AQF Level 6 qualification in a civil construction, traffic engineering, or road design related field.

Existing Workers

During the transition phase ONLY, workers who can provide evidence of the following are eligible to enrol in this course:

• A current ticket that allows them to develop, review or audit traffic management designs or traffic guidance schemes

AND

• Evidence of currency of practice. This must demonstrate that in the past 3 years they have designed, or reviewed, or audited a minimum of 12 TMPs or 12 TGSs which must include a minimum of four different worksite locations

Additional Requirements for all Learners

• All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course i.e. Australian Driver’s License, Passport, or Proof of Age Card. This is mandatory for accredited courses.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
• Must have a valid USI to be issued the Statement of Attainment. All information regarding the USI is found at www.usi.gov.au

Regulatory Requirements upon Successful Completion

• Learners are required to be reaccredited every 3 years.
